What do our spirits need today?

What does your spirit need today?

What do your loved ones’ spirits need?

Do you ever find yourself getting these wires crossed?

I feel like I do all of the time…

I cannot tell you how many times I have caught myself in the “knowing best” lane

Here’s a prime example:

This morning, as I write this, my hubby just left to go to the driving range.

I want to go for a walk on one of the countless little trails around us here because the weather is absolutely perfect fall weather, and after a full week of screens and tension, my spirit needs some time outside, around nature, to bring it back a little bit.

In my head, this was also what my husband’s spirit needed, so I suggested that we go together.

After a small discussion of trying to plan out how our days would look this weekend, it hit me.

The things he was expressing that he wanted to do included the driving range; this was not something of value to me, but I could tell it was important to him.

In that moment I had a decision to make.

I know that if I insisted, he would make the time and go for the walk with me and the dog- but what he really needed, for his own peace, was the driving range.

Both of us wanted some outdoor time and space, and some movement for our bodies, but it looks very different for us, because we are different people.

This might be one of the harder lessons I work on constantly.

My husband and I actually do often end up on the same page and doing much of our things together, but occasionally we stumble on one of these situations.

The little codependent people pleaser in me (hello fellow Enneagram 2’s!), wants to scream and do everything together, because if we don’t then clearly it means we are falling apart and our marriage will never last, and I’m a terrible wife and person and we are all miserable… and…and… (insert observant eye roll here lol)

BUT- when I use the tools of getting quiet and really listening to what we are both saying, and REALLY listening to what my soul is saying inside of me, my inner knowing says: “Just go on your walk alone...it will probably be more enjoyable anyway, not having to drag someone else along that doesn’t want to be there”.  And in that moment, I was able to release the self-judgement and what it “means” if we do our own thing for a while.

And, in that moment, I swear I felt my soul take a deep breath.

I guess what I want to say here is, don’t be afraid to listen to what your spirit needs. And, don’t be afraid to let your loved ones do their own thing.

We are all spinning right now.

We always are, but especially this year.

What do you need right now?

What do your loved ones, or your teams need right now?

Remember that it isn’t a reflection of you, when people need something outside of what you are either willing or capable of providing.

When we let go of that- it’s like we can all take a deep breath and just be ourselves.

I hope you find some time to nurture your spirit today.

And I hope you find the peace to let others do the same.

I love you! Keep going! <3
